Fresh Snow = Clean Rugs & Sweaters!

Each year I get asked “How do I clean my hooked rugs?” My answer is always, “Wait until a fresh snowfall.”

This year (more than others) many of you can utilize a fresh snow to clean not only your hooked rugs but your 100% wool sweaters too!

Step one: Pick an area of fresh snow that you can easily access and handle the rugs and sweaters. This Saturday I chose the deck off the dye kitchen. . .easy, fresh snow and fun!

Next I put my hooked rug face down in the snow and then the same for my wool sweater.

Then I walk on the hooked rug so that it really sits in the snow and I push the sweater down in the snow. After after 10 minutes, I brush fresh snow on the top of both.

After about 20-25 minutes, I reverse the rug and the sweater and repeat the process.

Once both sides have been “snow washed”, shake the rug of excess snow and hand on a drying rack or shower until dry. The same follows suit for your wool sweater.

You can see the snow where the rug was is just a tad dirty.

The end result is a clean rug and refreshed wool sweater–ready for another season!
